It has been a little while since I have mentioned our upcoming nuptials so I thought that I'd give a bit of an update on where we are at with our planning. We will be made Mr and Mrs in June of 2014 in (hold your breath, this is the exciting part) beautiful Santorini, Greece. Wee! Can you dig how exciting this is? I haven't been on a proper holiday since 2009 and am downright giddy with anticipation for spending this special time on such a magnificent island with our nearest and dearest. I'm not going to lie, I've been online bikini window shopping in anticipation already!
The decision to be married in Greece came to pass after spending some time visiting wedding venues here in Sydney and realising that the cost of a Sydney reception for 100 or so guests is completely bonkers. I would go so far as to say that it is slightly sickening. We could think of approximately 1 million things that we would rather do with the money, and going on holiday was one of those things. Ang is Greek Orthodox and we had agreed that our ceremony would be performed in an Orthodox church, so it wasn't long before we starting thinking that as long as we were planning a big fat Greek wedding, we may as well do it properly! The churches in Santorini are utterly breathtaking and the people there have been a delight to deal with. We have an english speaking planner in Greece who is kindly organising the logistics of the day for us, and though we don't speak Greek ourselves, we have family members on call should someone need a talking to. The best part: our whole four week holiday in Greece will cost us more or less the same as a reception would here in Sydney. Win, win, we say!
Now on to the interesting (pretty) bits. I have been (rather unoriginally, I'll admit) dreaming of greek goddesses, natural, flowing gowns and leafy bouquets since the idea of Greece first planted itself in my imagination and have been overwhelmed by the beautiful inspiration that I have found. I would very much like to purchase about six dresses, each more gorgeous than the last. Have a peek below at these unbelievably stunning Grecian themed wedding inspiration pictures.
These three images were found on Once Wed and oh my goodness I am captivated by this Samuelle dress. Isn't it incredible? Though I wouldn't wear a leafy crown that poked downwards into my eyes like this, I love the idea of incorporating olive leaves and branches into our day.
