Valentines Day: Some News To Share

As it turns out, the weatherman was kind to me after all this Valentine's day. There were no jackets required for our Valentine's day surprise. However, though I thought that I had arranged the ultimate surprise Valentine's day for Ang, I was the surprised one when he pulled out the most beautiful ring that I have ever seen and asked me to marry him. Happy Valentine's day indeed! I'm still in shock!

As I have slyly mentioned on the blog over the last couple of weeks, I had arranged a surprise for Valentines day. My step-mum, Tan, had told me that a friend of hers had booked a scenic flight on a sea plane followed by a picnic lunch, but unfortunately couldn't go and neither could my Dad and Tan, so they bought it for Ang and I to treat us for Valentine's day. I couldn't believe my luck and jumped at the chance to share such a romantic day with Angelo. Thinking that I was being sneaky, I decided to surprise Ang with our amazing plans, and didn't tell him our plans until we were at the wharf on the day. He constantly asked me questions, trying to get the secret out of me, but I was stoic. I was going to surprise him and he was going to like it.

We boarded our little sea plane and took off on the most spectacular flight around Sydney Harbour, circling around the bridge and the opera house and swooping along the beautiful cliffs and beaches around Bondi. I was grinning ear to ear and kept looking to Ang asking him if he was enjoying his surprise. He assured me that yes, this was the most incredible surprise of all time, and I was so chuffed that I'd pulled it off (generally, I am useless with secrets. Terrible. The worst liar in the history of the world, hands down).

After our flight we were ushered into a little boat and bounced across the waves to Shark Island, a tiny island in Sydney Harbour. We were given a hamper of food and drinks and a picnic blanket to sit on and told to call when we were ready to come home for a ride back to shore. There were only a couple of others on the island and when we found our picnic spot, it truly felt as if we were alone  - just us and our amazing view with our extravagant picnic. Everything was so perfect and at this point I was feeling pretty chuffed with myself for giving Angelo this amazing surprise. I had absolutely no clue that I was about to get the surprise of my life. Utterly oblivious!

After our lunch we snuggled on the rock, drunk champagne and chatted in the sun until Ang decided that the time was right. He tricked me into standing up and looking the other way (look at that incredible boat) and when I turned back to him he was down on one knee. He used my full name, made sure that we had hundreds of photos of our day together, and had asked for my Dad's permission. Can the boy do no wrong, or what?

The clouds drifted away soon after the big event and we started to burn a little in the sun, so once we had called my parents we packed up our picnic and took to enjoying the beautiful day and one another by exploring the island, finding flat stones to skim on the harbour and  jumping in the rockpools like kids. It was the most wonderful, special day and I didn't think that it could possibly get any better.

It eventually came out that, of course, Ang had orchestrated the whole day and that Tan was in on the scheme from the beginning.  The fact that I had decided to surprise him was just the icing on the cake. I was absolutely shocked. I am still shocked! I think that I laughed for a good 20 or 30 seconds in utter disbelief before actually saying yes, poor Ang. The day got even better when we arrived at my Dad's house for dinner with Ang's family to find a spectacular arrangement of flowers and heart shaped chocolates, champagne and smiles. They all knew, the naughty buggers! I am in such awe of the lying abilities of those closest to me. Honestly, I think that Ang deserves some sort of award for his performance. I have no idea how he managed to kept a straight face for all of that time while I refused to tell him where we were going and insisted on giving him directions while we drove to the wharf rather than just telling him where to go. He even gave me a good performance in the morning having a little manly hissy fit deciding what to wear "how can I know what to wear if you won't tell me what we're doing? I need to be prepared!" Very convincing, my love.

A big and hearty thank you to everyone who helped to make this day so special for us. You are all naughty liars and I love you all so much. I am so happy and feel so incredibly lucky to have so much love in my life.

Angelo, you nailed it.

And now, the money shot! My ring is a champagne diamond set in rose gold with a black rhodium boarder. I adore it and can't stop looking at it. My goodness, I am feeling all shocked and giddy again now just looking at this picture and remembering my shock on the day.

I'll post some shots of my outfit over the weekend sometime - right now I'm just enjoying this warm fuzzy feeling. Happy Valentines day lovers! I'm sending some of my overflowing love out into the world.
